Topic: Most Honoured Sacrifice (Day 4)
Daily Bible Reading: Psalm 32, 51, 86, 122
Psalm 51:16-17 KJV — For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. [17] The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
The first sacrifices recorded in the bible by Cain and Abel taught us a lesson that God is not desperate for sacrifices.
Genesis 4:5 KJV — But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Anyone who must offer a sacrifice to God must first be accepted before his sacrifice can be accepted.
Isaiah 66:2-3 KJV — For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. [3] He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck…
God derives no pleasure in several sacrifices, as compared to a heart that is broken completely before Him. He would not despise a broken and contrite heart.
Psalm 34:18 KJV — The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
David had just been confronted with his sin, and he immediately broke down before God in repentance. He never sought to honour himself by covering his sin as Saul did. Saul sought to be honoured and to offer sacrifice to God in his sin, but David realized the true sacrifice of God and he gave it.
2 Samuel 12:13 KJV — And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
God is more interested in the sacrifice of you — your heart — rather than your hand. God will never despise a man with a broken spirit and a contrite heart. He is full of mercy and a key condition to obtain mercy from Him is brokenness.
Question: How do you know you are broken within? Please leave your views in the comment section.
