Destruction by Idleness

Topic: Destruction by Idleness (Day 3)

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 11, 12; 1 Chronicles 20

2 Samuel 11:1 KJV — And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

We can see a very important lesson from the life of David, a man after God’s heart — how he was destroyed by idleness. We are not created to be idle; if you do not engage in doing the right things, you will be occupied with the wrong things.

A little bit of break from war brought a terrible spiritual defeat to the valiant David on the bed of immorality. The unfortunate thing is that, when one falls at one point and instant repentance does not follow, he will keep falling deeper.

David went from sexual immorality to the murder of the innocent Uriah, one of his strongest warriors. Let’s pay attention to the little comfort that makes us retreat from our godly activities. A little break might be little for you, but it is enough for Satan to destroy so much.

This singular act altered the order of things in the house of David — it ended up dividing Israel and leaving only Judah to David, only by God’s mercy and faithfulness to His covenant.

God does not overlook consequences for sin, especially sexual immorality. The price of forgiveness is costlier than the devil makes it appear when he brings sin your way.

1 Kings 12:16 KJV — So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

Question: How do you break out of the consequences of the errors of your fathers? Please leave your views in the comment section.
